AANHPI Heritage Month Book Drive at IKEA Draper
Draper, UT — On May 31, 2025, In celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, IKEA Draper partnered with the To’omalatai Family Foundation and All Poly Sports to host a special book drive. The goal: fill an iconic BILLY bookcase with new and gently used children’s books to support students in Samoa and the community showed up!
Throughout the day, families, shoppers, and community members came together to donate books for Falefitu and Lalomanu Primary Schools in Samoa. Guests who contributed were invited to spin a prize wheel, making giving back fun for all ages. Beyond the excitement, the event sparked meaningful conversations with IKEA customers about the importance of literacy, cultural connection, and education access across Oceania.

This partnership was a natural fit. “We believe the To’omalatai Family Foundation shares our values to prioritize and educate children, whether here in Utah or far away,” said Andrea Rivers, Loyalty Manager at IKEA Draper.
Foundation Founder Talia Thompson shared, “I just wanted to start a domino effect and inspire people to support schools in the Pacific Islands and give kids the tools to succeed.”
Director Janay Lata added, “It was incredible to partner with IKEA to help reimagine school libraries in Samoa. Our goal is to make them more fun, welcoming, and kid-friendly—to spark a love for reading.”
The event was a resounding success, and the books collected will soon help transform classrooms and lives across the Pacific. We’re grateful to everyone who donated, listened, and stood with us to uplift young readers.
